To begin with this recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can have green grams (ndengu) using 10 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Green grams (ndengu):
  1. Make ready 1 onion
  2. Get 2 tomatoes
  3. Take Coriander
  4. Take 2 cloves garlic
  5. Make ready 1 capsicum (hoho)
  6. Take 1 cup ndengu
  7. Take 1 cup milk
  8. Prepare Half teaspoon tumeric
  9. Prepare 2 royco cubes
  10. Prepare 2 chillies (optional)

I don't like alot of spice in my Ndengu, I'd rather have all the natural flavors and taste of the ndengus in my soup. I got some Pre-Cooked green grams samples from Nairobean. In a large Sufuria add green grams and water. Remove from heat and set aside.

Steps to make Green grams (ndengu):
  1. Fry the onions until they turn golden brown.
  2. I dont like the smell of raw dhania so i grind it with the garlic and add it at this point. I also add chilies at this stage. Stir of about 2 mins.
  3. Add the tomatoes. Cook until the mixture turns into a paste. Add in the tumeric.
  4. Once the mixture is well cooked put in the hoho and cook for a min. Add your crushed royco cubes.
  5. Stir for a while then pour in the milk. Let it cook until the milk boils. Add the green grams and let the food simmer for 5-10mins.
  6. Serve with rice or chapati.

Ndengu Samosa (Green Grams Samosa). but this version of vegetarian samosa's filled with Ndengu or Pojo if that's what you call green grams is so delicious, i'm sure most of you will choose to have it over the meat filled version. These samosas are little parcels of heaven. However, I discovered Ndengu, which is the Kenyan-style of mung beans, also called green grams. This greenish stew does not look very inviting, but the taste of the mung beans is wonderful! With some red colour, it looks more delicious - and it tastes so good!
