Poha is the Maharashtrian word for flattened or beaten rice and Kanda means onions. Hence the term Kanda poha or Kanda pohe (pohe being plural of Poha). In some variations of poha recipe potato is added instead of onions. Some people like to add both onions and potatoes.

Instructions to make Non veg poha:
  1. Cook the mince meat with all the dry spice powders until it releases oil
  2. Fry the boiled Vegetables in the same oil
  3. Add oil if needed. Poha requires more oil than usual.
  4. Temper it with whole garam masala, a pinch of cumin seeds and a pinch of asafoetida
  5. Add the chopped onions and ginger paste
  6. Cook until onions become translucent
  7. Add the fried vegetables.
  8. Add the cooked mince meat or chorizo
  9. Add the scrambled eggs
  10. Add the poha
  11. Mix well and fry for 10 mins
  12. Add oil if needed
  13. Add salt and sugar to taste
  14. When the grains are nicely coated and are fried well, turn off the stove
  15. Add some garam masala powder and ghee on top
  16. Mix well and squeeze some lime on top
  17. Serve hot
