The ingredients needed to make Dry chilli paneer:
  1. Take For batter
  2. Get paneer (approximately 200 to 250 grams)
  3. Make ready kashmiri red chilli powder(optional)

We love the restaurant served Indo chinese foods. This is a dry snack and can be has an appetizer. When I make paneer (Indian cottage cheese) at home, then most of the times (when there is capsicum in the fridge I make this chilli paneer. This recipe creates semi-dry chilli paneer, which is commonly referred to as Dry Paneer Chilli in restaurants.

Steps to make Dry chilli paneer:
  1. Make red chilli paste by mixing red chilli powder, sugar and little water. Set this aside. Make a thick or thin batter of cornflour, red chilli powder, pepper, salt using little water.
  2. If you are health conscious and prefer to use less corn flour then make a thin batter. If you like the restaurant style chilli paneer which has a thick coating of flour, then make batter thick. Add paneer to the batter and deep fry or shallow fry.
  3. Retain little oil in the pan, Fry garlic until it smells good.
  4. Fry onions, chilies and capsicum until partially cooked. Add sauces, vinegar and red chilli paste.
  5. Add 2.5 tbsp. water to the pan. If using corn flour, add that to a bowl and mix with 2.5 to 3 tbsp water. Stir well.
  6. Pour flour mixture to the pan. Cook till the sauce thickens.
  7. Add fried cubes and saute for 2 minutes. Add the spring onion greens.
  8. Serve chilli paneer hot as a starter

The quantity of sauce is just enough to coat the paneer, onions and peppers. Add this sauce mix as per recipe directions. Chilli paneer is a famous Indo-Chinese dish that's sweet, spicy, and tangy! My version is healthier than what you'll find in restaurants and it's also much easier to make (no need to deep-fry anything!). This recipe calls for my pre-made onion masala sauce which adds loads of flavor.
