  3. Add onion, garlic & curry leaves. Saute till light brown.
  4. Add bitter melon, salt & turmeric powder. Cover & fry on a med. flame - till soft.
  5. Then add red chili powder. Give it a stir.
  6. Add sugar and continue to fry further for a minute more.
  7. Serve with hot steamed rice and with some ghee drizzled over it.

Add a tsp. of salt and keep aside for an hour. Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds. After it stops spluttering, add the urad dal, chana dal and asafoetida.
